TROMPA has developed CLARA (Companion for Long-term Analyses of Rehearsal Attempts), a powerful tool for review of rehearsal progress. CLARA allows instrumental players to capture, gather, and compare rehearsal recordings, providing insights on the evolution of performative aspects over time. Musicians may revisit and review their rehearsals, using the musical score as a means of navigating through their rehearsal recordings. The rehearsals are aligned with a digital score encoded using the Music Encoding Initiative’s MEI format, allowing specific aspects of each performance (e.g., the tempo) to be visualised against the musical score. This provides immediate feedback regarding corresponding stylistic and technical aspects of the musician’s rehearsal renditions.

Instrumental players

Many instrumental players actively make use of online music resources, in order to find and learn new repertoire. In TROMPA, we will work on ways to support this process, e.g. by offering better insight into various performances of the same piece, by researching automatic difficulty assessment of unknown pieces, and by devising rehearsal monitoring and supporting tools.
